Summary:
In which a lot of geometry-cleanup is done; wooden planks prove tricky; a tunnel is perplexing; another vertex-shadow is added; and some aesthetic shader-experiments are made, but not kept
Greetings and salutations!
For this week's screenshots, a bit more (work-in-progress) ruin:
The work of the week just past was almost entirely further cleanup of various buildings. As a result, this post will be a relatively short one, although a fair bit of work was done!
As just noted, I spent time cleaning up various ruined buildings; two of these are shown in the screenshots above. This wasn't particularly difficult, but did take time, and was a little tedious.
There is more to be done--for one, I'm still experimenting with approaches to representing broken planks, and for another, various wall -tops and -edges will likely want for some manual UV-( and perhaps vertex- )work.
In one place, there's a sort of "tunnel" beneath a building, which provides an alternate route though part of the level. When I came to clean it up, I realised that I had a problem: I didn't know why such a thing would be there, and thus quite how to go about detailing it. Is there a reason for a straight tunnel in such a place, in which case it might be left more or less whole? Should it be ostensibly the result of damage to the building--in which case why did it take the form of a tunnel?
For now I'm somewhat inclined to make it look decent, and hope that it goes largely unquestioned... ^^;
I also did a little bit of miscellaneous cleanup work, fixing or touching up various bits of geometry.
Aside from cleanup, I put in some work on two things:
First, you may recall the vertex-shadows that I previously showed. In the week just past I added another such shadow around the stone block on which the ostensibly-shadow-casting lantern rests.
And second, I experimented with some aesthetic changes to the player-light shader. In the end, however, I wasn't happy with any of them, and reverted the changes.
That's all for this week--stay well, and thank you for reading! ^_^
