Without attempting to list each feature, let me describe the game in its current state:
After a brief introductory text, the player advances through several rooms (in a linear fashion), fighting shadow-creatures along the way, surrounded by the sounds of them. When killed, the enemies simply fade away. At two points the player is stopped by rising doors, and expected to defeat a full wave of enemies before the doors once again fall and allow passage onwards. Finally the player reaches a boss arena, and faces the creature that has seized the player-character's realm. Winning through here, an epilogue is shown, and the player is returned to the main menu.
Outside of gameplay, the menu has been completed (although there is no music for the main menu, alas :/ ), and an options screen added to allow the player to adjust the field of view, set the mouse sensitivity, toggle anti-aliasing, and set the window-size. A credits/legal screen is also available, stating my copyright, and showing the licences for the Panda3D engine and the font that I chose for certain elements.
As I mentioned above, some elements are a little rough: the boss was somewhat hastily implemented; there is no indicator to convey damage being taken (beyond the health bar decreasing, and eventually the player-character's death, at least); and some elements of the level perhaps want for a bit of polish, or rethinking.
There were also a few features left aside: I wanted to implement "signposts"--essentially triggers that would show a piece of text or play a sound--to make the level feel a little more "animate"; the menu, as mentioned, lacks music; a "pain indicator" might have been useful in conveying damage being taken by the player; and I wanted to include some basic cheats to allow the judges of the game-jam to skip ahead if desired.
Still, I'm overall fairly happy with my entry! It's not quite what I had in mind going in, but I'm reasonably content with what it is.
I haven't yet decided whether I'm going to update the "Projects" page to show the game (and perhaps offer it for download), or remove the "Week of Awesome IV" entry entirely. While I'm reasonably happy with this game as an entry into a game-jam, I'm not sure that I'm sufficiently happy with it that I want it displayed here. I'll likely decide on Monday.
Speaking of Monday, I don't intend to write my usual Monday blog entry--after all, I haven't been working on A Door to the Mists this week, and the progress of my Week of Awesome entry has already been related in this and previous entries. However, I might later in the day write a post-mortem for this game.
That's all for today--stay well, and thank you for reading! ^_^
