Concept art for one of the earlier levels. Over time in this city, buildings have been erected over the remains of their predecessors, street levels have risen, and much has been lost, forgotten, or sealed in. The result is myriad tiny pockets of history, and opportunities for those willing to delve into these sometimes-dangerous places for the treasures left behind.
What is it?
A Door to the Mists is a first-person game in a fantasy setting, featuring exploration, traversal, puzzle-solving, and sparse combat.
The game takes place in a setting with two worlds: the "mundane" world of humans, swords, and glittering animal-signs; and the mist-wrapped world of magic, from which magic comes and to- and from- which magic-users can move. The plot follows an adventurer who has long yearned to adventure in that other world. Hearing one day a story of a lost city holding a door that opens onto the other world, she sets off after it, hoping that the tale is true, seeking adventure even if it isn't.
More detail should be available on the "projects" page.
Features:
- Exploration
- Ledge-climbing
- In short, if it's solid, within reach, sufficiently flat, and has sufficient space, you should be able to climb onto it.
- Puzzle-solving
- Combat
- One-on-one melee; inspired by the Quest for Glory series
Read on to learn where the game stands right now, a brief account of the road thus far, and what I intend next, with a bit of concept/promo art thrown in.
